Structuring a Blog Post and 100 Words on Saturday

June 7, 2014 By Vidya Sury 9 Comments

Did you enjoy the Maya Angelou prompt on Wednesday? Ah, I know you did! The posts I read were quite stunning! Let’s get a bit techy today – let’s talk about an important aspect of blogging.

Structuring a Blog Post

The debate about what is the perfect blog post is always on.Questions like…

How long should the post be?
How many words?
At what frequency should I publish?
Am I writing too much?
Am I writing too little?
What is the right way to structure the post?

….are always relevant when you are blogging. Let’s tackle one question here today – how to structure a blog post for maximum impact. I am offering Copyblogger’s infographic here as a pretty good reference for the 11 ingredients every blog post needs. Here’s what they recommend – use it as your checklist.

  1. Craft a magnetic headline.
  2. Open with a bang.
  3. Use persuasive words.
  4. Write damn good sentences.
  5. Insert killer bullet points.
  6. Create exquisite subheads.
  7. Tell a seductive story.
  8. Keep attention with internal cliffhangers.
  9. Choose an arresting image.
  10. Close in style.
  11. Be authentic.

That was great. I will share it, thank you. I did not know about the word Criteria – good to know! I appreciated what he said about Irregardless. That has been a pet peeve of mine for years. I would love to write a story using the picture prompt but am out of town. Thanks Vidya – always enjoy your posts.
